Center for ADHD is unlike any other practice in Philadelphia area or Southern New Jersey because of our extensive training and education in specific methodologies and strategies that are designed for the population we work with.
Center for ADHD does not provide traditional talk therapy which is often an ineffective treatment for children, adolescents and young adults we work with who struggle with their social skills, executive functioning or emotional regulation.
We believe that ADHD, Asperger’s, and high-functioning autism are learning issues, not mental health issues and need to be addressed through teaching skills and strategies rather than simply talking about feelings or rehashing the previous weeks events.
Many families who come to us do so with a healthy amount of skepticism. Many have been to multiple therapists/psychologists only to find that talk therapy was not a productive use of their time or financial resources. Others have attended multiple social skills groups and found that the other children in the group had more significant needs than their child.
Regardless of their past experiences, the families we work with often tell us that this is the first time they feel like they are taking something productive from therapy and their child is learning valuable skills and strategies.
Most importantly, we teach all the kids that their diagnostic label is only a description of how their brain works and is not their identity. Teenagers in particular are very receptive to our services when they realize that this will not be like their previous experiences in therapy or social skills groups.
